FVH X LM MOHAIR WOVEN

The FVH x LM Woven Mohair Collection is a collaboration between South African designers Frances van Hasselt and Leandi Mulder.

Their latest range adapts what they learned during their Italian residency for the South African textile industry and is inspired by the Karoo – the international home of mohair.

Made up of five multipurpose pieces, blankets or scarves, each offers a different colour pallet and textural make up. Each piece is woven by hand and stems from the ground.

The range is completely sustainable, locally made, and uses South African mohair and traditional hand weaving techniques.

YARN CRAFTMANSHIP

This collection pays homage to the craftsmanship of yarn by showcasing its variety. Intriguing movement in the design draws attention to the threads, highlighting the tiny, physical moments that make the finished piece fall, function and feel the way it does.

In each piece the irregularity of the yarns and weave convey the subtle shifts and changes of the Karoo’s vast horizons, her twisted knots of ancient rocks and the silence of the stories fossilized into the belly of this ancient seabed.

This collection is a story of origin, where place, process, textures and raw materials weave together our commonality with nature.

desert Homage

The Karoo tugs at our senses; with nothing to distract us from the shifting light, low hanging skies and the pastel pallet of the far away shapes. There is a collective sense of a homecoming when you enter her plains; A sense of place that takes one back in time, asking us to imagine a strange alternative reality, makes us believe in history and how small a speck we fill in her long extended lifespan.

Her open form ask us to look slowly, walk lightly, play with day dreams and simply sit with the still of knowing that you may be the only human alive to have spotted that pop of purple, or noticed that seemingly vacant bush dancing to the hum of meandering breeze.
